EAZY-E:
The Little Big Man of Compton
(A Short Bio)

Early Life and Introduction to Music

Eazy-E (Eric Lynn Wright) was born in California, in 1964.

Eric was born and raised in the rough neighborhood of Compton. Growing up in gang culture fostered Eazy-E’s hustle mindset. But he loved music nonetheless, and began rapping in the mid-80s.

The Birth of Ruthless Records

Eazy-E founded Ruthless Records in 1987 and hired veteran music executive Jerry Heller as a partner. The label released tracks featuring Eazy-E and his group, N.W.A (Niggaz Wit Attitudes) in a Album called "N.W.A and the Posse". But quickly signed other artists like: "J. J Fad"," Above the law" then "Michel’le" etc. Ruthless Records was known for cultivating talent.
(Ultimately This Reputation will absolutely be confirmed later on, when "Bone Thugs-n-Harmony" emerge)

The Rise of N.W.A

N.W.A, including Dr Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, the D.O.C and Eazy-E, were known for their risqué songs and rapping descriptions of the neighbourhood lifestyle. Dr. Dre did a magnificent work on this Album named "Straight Outta Compton" in 1988.

They were riot songs that brought the nation to tears over police violence and racial injustice.

Eazy-E's Solo Success

Eazy-E began to make his own mark when he released his first solo album "Eazy-Duz-It" in 1988 (after the release of the Album "Straight Outta Compton"). Songs such as "Boyz-n-theHood" or "We Want Eazy" contained his scruffy rhymes and rough street language. N.W.A and Eazy-E developed a "neighbourhood lifestyle Rap", where the rappers expressed the harsh realities of the Ghetto.

Controversies and Artistic Integrity

Eazy-E's music was explosively raw. With the assistance of other members of the group, He stood his ground on the assertion that his work was about the brutality of the "Ghetto". He never compromised his lyricism

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Beyond the Rapper, Eazy-E was also a Succesfull businessman. He owned Ruthless Records, and signed acts such as "Bone Thugs-n-Harmony". He infused West Coast Hip-Hop with innovation and entrepreneurship and built an industry out of it.

Legacy and Untimely Death

Eazy-E tragically died of complications from AIDS(?) in 1995, at the age of 31. His early passing rocked the world of music and took a toll on his fans and his family. And yet even now, Eazy-E is an act of force majeure, and his Music still echoes in the ears of a lot of young Hip-Hop artists who consider him a founding father of West-Coast Hip-Hop.

Conclusion

Eazy-E really had an impact on hip-hop in the grandest sense of the word. He gave West Coast hip-hop its distinctive sound, uncompromising lyrics and entrepreneurial attitude. Only when we look back at his work can we reflect on him, and consider how Eazy-E’s music will resonate with future generations of artists and listeners.
